Sometimes Staying Active Requires a Little Encouragement

There are folks in their 30’s and 40’s who pay lots of money every month for a personal trainer. While these trainers are expensive experts on exercises for strength and movement, you can also think of them as professional motivators.  And as we get older, it turns out that the motivation to get up and exert oneself is in increasingly short supply. Implicit in the many activities and exercise classes at our community are our own professional motivators, free of charge, and the residents who benefit from them. Let’s take a closer look at the fitness leaders at Lester Senior Living, as well as a few of the most popular classes they provide our independent seniors in Morris County.

Sit and Be Fit with Kendra

Rather than telling you how wonderful of a person Kendra is, we’d rather show you. Watch our video below to “Meet” Kendra, the Activity Assistant at JCHC’s Lester Senior Living:

Kendra leads many activities here, but one of the most popular classes is Sit and Be Fit.  This class is a great beginner class for the majority of our residents because it involves chair exercises. Sit and Be Fit is especially ideal for seniors who may have some mobility limitations and would feel more comfortable exercising while sitting down.

Zumba with Tammy

This fitness class is a fan-favorite because it takes place outside on our beautiful Heller Patio. Zumba is the perfect exercise class for our residents that love to listen and music and dance. With Zumba, our residents achieve a full body workout, mood and confidence boost, improved cognitive function and a better defense against cardiovascular disease. Not only does Zumba have many health benefits, but this class also gives our residents a great opportunity to get outdoors and smell the fresh air!

Balance and Mindfulness with Tami R.

Did you know that seniors who practice balancing exercises regularly have greater chances of preventing falls, improving their posture and enhancing their cognitive skills? If that’s not reason enough to try this class with our sweet and fun-loving Tami, then we don’t know what is!

Yoga with Kim

The best way we can describe Kim is zen. She keeps our yogi seniors cool, calm and collected throughout each session. Seniors who take part in yoga regularly can benefit from better sleep, improved balance and flexibility, stronger bones and reduced stress levels – just to name a few advantages. Perhaps, the greatest advantage is the effect yoga has on their minds. The mood boost is real, and if your loved one doesn’t believe us – they need to try out a class to find out the truth!

A Senior Community That Exercises Together, Stays Motivated!

Staying active is not just about the exercises and fitness trainers, it’s about the community around the residents. Lester Senior Living fosters a supportive environment where residents can motivate each other, share experiences, and build lasting connections. This sense of camaraderie adds an extra layer of encouragement for seniors to stay committed to their wellness journey.
